2019 March Greenbelt Camping Trip
We will be camping Friday-Sunday, March 15-17, at Greenbelt Park.
Please be at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church by 4:30pm on Friday at the latest - 4:00 is better if you can make it - to allow time for individual and troop gear checks. We will leave at 5:00pm. Scouts who are not able to make it to the church by 4:30 should meet us at Greenbelt Park. We will be in the Youth Loop, which is the first loop past the ranger station, in campsites 14, 15, 16 and 20.
We will return to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church at noon on Sunday.
Cobra and Dragon patrols will backpack through Greenbelt Park before setting up camp Friday night. Saturday morning, they will break camp and do more backpacking, planning to set up camp again in by mid-afternoon, when they will work on skills with members of the Phoenix Patrol. Sunday morning, they will again break camp and backpack for a few more miles before heading back to the church. All meals for the Cobra and Dragon patrols are individual.
Phoenix patrol will set up camp Friday night, go on a hike in the morning on Saturday, and work on Scout skills in the afternoon/evening. A goal for the Phoenix patrol is to ensure that all members who would like to earn the Scout rank before the Court of Honor at the end of the month are able to do so. Sunday morning, they will break camp and head back to the church. All meals for the Phoenix Patrol will be cooked and eaten as a patrol, with specific Scouts assigned to plan the menu, shop, and cook for each meal.
The cost of the camping trip is $10 for the campsites, and $25 for food for members (including adult leaders) of the Phoenix Patrol. Phoenix Patrol members should save their receipts for food and turn them in for reimbursement.
In addition to their personal gear and any shared food, Scouts should bring a signed permission slip, parts A and B of the health and medical record (if not already on file), and payment (cash or a check made out to Troop 97 - $10 for Cobra and Dragon patrols, $35 for Phoenix Patrol) when they arrive at the church on Friday.
